Flat chance

So, I am eagerly gearing up for my trip to Las Vegas at the end of the month. Me and the boyfriend are going together (he's never been!), and the timing is quite perfect, considering we celebrate our one year anniversary of being together this month!

I have put "Operation: Look Hot in Vegas" into effect (which means a few days of detox, a generally healthy diet, and a work out routine over the next 2 and a half weeks). While it's been a bit of a rough start (I definitely lack will power...actually, let's face it, I just love junk food far too much), there is really only one thing that's causing me a little anxiety about the trip:

I can't wear heels!!! My ankle is pretty much healed (after the severe sprain I obtained in mid March at a music video shoot), and on a daily basis, I don't think much about the injury. However, because of the way I sprained it, putting that foot in a "tip-toe" position still causes me some pain. Walking in heels is particularly difficult. How am I going to look appropriately sexy and dressed up while I'm walking the strip??

I am still hoping for some sort of miraculous healing to happen to my foot before then, but I am also doing my best to brainstorm for the most creative and utterly cool outfits I can think of that involve flat shoes. Here's some inspiration:

By Charlotte Russe. I used to have the same pair in black, I think.

Handmade glitter flats I found on a craft web site called "We Are Not Martha" (love the name!)

Remember Jellys?? Meet the new breed. How fun! The silver pair reminds me of Cinderella's glass slippers. I could pair either of these with a cocktail dress and barely care that they were flats! Apparently Zappos.com is a good place to look for Jellys, such as these pink ones here, although they can be a bit pricy.

Sophisticated and reminiscent of the 1920s. But get this: These are by Christian Siriano for Payless (adore him!) and are only $16!

I'm doing my best to save money before the vacation, but I may have to see if I can find a pretty pair, or two, on the cheap (I'm a big fan of Plato's Closet...shopping trip this week, perhaps?).
If you have any tips for a cripple who wants to look hot on vacation, do share! I'd love to hear your crazy Vegas stories, as well!

  1. That sucks! But just think how nice it will be that your feet aren't killing you from all that walking in heels! If you can find a really cute pair of flats, I think it's a win-win! :)

And PS, I'm jealous of your Vegas trip!!

  2. I applaud your efforts to keep your ankle healthy, but i gotta be honest...i fucking hate flats. Maybe it was too much Spice Girls in my teen years, but I just think heels look sexier. Sucks, dude.

  3. Oh yes, heels are definitely sexier. And it's not even really a question of wanting to keep my ankle "healthy"...it's about not wanting it to be in pain! But yeah, if I re-injure it, especially while I'm in Vegas, and can't walk again at ALL, I will not be a happy camper.

But, as Emily said, at least I wont have to worry about the usual pain from wearing heels either, so that is a plus.

Truth be told though, I had JUST started getting really used to wearing heels regularly when my ankle got hurt. I also had just obtained like four, really amazing pairs too. What timing. :/
